जलद रेखाटांनासाठी अनेक माध्यमे आज जारी उपलब्ध आसली तरी पेन्सिल किवा चरकोल हे जगभरातील आवडते आणि सहज उपलब्द आसणारे माध्यम आहे. यात मिळणारी अनेक प्रकारांमुळे ते आजही लोकप्रिय माध्यम आहे.
